Jim Chisholm has been appointed as the new director for the Scottish Newspaper Society.
Chisholm is the former commercial director of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, and managing director of Business AM. He has also worked as an international advisor in the newspaper industry for the European Commission and the World Association of Newspapers.
He said:
Having been lucky enough to work with editors and publishers across the world, I retain a particular passion for the Scottish newspaper scene.
Its richness and variety, from large national dailies to small but vital community publications, is just one reason why Scots are as enthusiastic newspaper readers as nearly any country on earth.
I am looking forward to working with the Society’s members and the wider range of industry stakeholders to enhance the value and influence of newspapers across the Scottish community.
The Society’s president, Tim Blott added:
I am delighted Jim is joining us as the new Director. He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge about our industry and a passion for our profession which we hope he will use to lobby and market our aims in a highly competitive and rapidly-changing media landscape.
Chisholm will begin his appointment on 2 July, when he succeeds retiring director Jim Raeburn.
Raeburn, who will be continuing his role as secretary and treasurer of the Press Standards Board of Finance Ltd (the funding body for the Press Complaints Commission) received an OBE in 2008 for his services to the industry.
He held his position as director of the Scottish Newspapers Publishers Association from 1984 to 2007 and as Director of the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society from 1996 to 2010. When the two bodies merged to form the Scottish Newspaper Society, Raeburn was subsequently made director.
Blott added:
I would also like to pay tribute to retiring Director, Jim Raeburn who provided such excellent service and sage advice to the Society and its members over many years.
